Double free music post

Tis the season for free music downloads, apparently.

Coldplay has a free album available for download as a thank you to their fans. It's called "Left Right Left Right Left" and you can download it here, just input your email address. You don't even have to tell them if you're really a fan.

Nylon Magazine has a free winter playlist available for download, but you have to have iTunes. (Am I the only one who just got an iTunes account? Carry on.) Here is the album list and download button.

Happy Happy.

April 15th - Look on the bright side

Tax day isn't fun for anybody. Even if you do get money back, by the time it arrives you've spent so long stressing about it and the refund is so small that it's hardly even worth it anymore. Or maybe that's just me.

If you work in Hollywood or are unemployed, Wednesday may just be your lucky day. At least as far as lunch is concerned.

Ivan Kane's Cafe Wa s is serving select menu items for absolutely free on Wednesday from 11am until 2pm. I might just have to take the day off.

BrokeLA St. Patrick's Day Roundup

Hey folks - sorry for the hiatus. I'm back and finding you free things again.

I know there are tons of bars doing awesome things for St. Patrick's Day tomorrow, but I'm only going to mention the ones that are, in true BrokeLA fashion, offering something free. Cause we all deserve it.

So, in no particular order besides the one I found out about them in:

Backstage - This awesome karaoke dive in Culver City is serving free corned beef with all the trimmings all day and night. If you go, please let me know what those trimmings are.

South - Free green jello shots to go with their not free green beer. Also live music - Sally's Gap will be playing.

St. Patrick's Day Parade and Young Dubliners Concert
- For those of you who won't be in a cubicle tomorrow, the parade is at 11:30am in downtown LA. Irish band Young Dubliners will play at 12:30. The poster also says that they will be selling O'Douls for $1, which is not only non-free but also non-alcoholic.

More to come...

ASSSSCAT at UCB

Sorry for the shouting, but that's how they refer to themselves.

ASSSSCAT is an improv show that moved from New York Upright Citizens Brigade to LA and headlines at UCB on Saturday nights. Luckily for us, they do a free show every Sunday at 7:30 pm. Looking forward to checking this one out, as it was recommended by someone I dig. (Please make sure to check the UCB calendar, as it looks like there are some Sundays they aren't booked.)

Upright Citizen's Brigade Theatre is located at 5919 Franklin Ave, Hollywood, 90028.

Amoeba Art Show Factory Party

Amoeba, The East Bay Express, and OFFSpace to turn an Emeryville warehouse into a teeming hotspot of live art, film, musical performances, and theatrical art forms. This event will feature a recreation of Andy Warhol's Factory, including live production of art in the style and process practiced by Warhol and not one but TWO Velvet Underground cover bands will provide the evening's soundtrack. Rooms will be packed with artwork from Amoeba employees, as well as works from very special celebrity guests (Mark Mothersbaugh, Gary Panter, David Lynch, etc)! Bring a can of Campbell's soup for the Alameda County Food Bank and you’ll be entered to win a host of prizes! Admission is free!

They're also having a 60s costume contest. Sounds like fun. More info here at the Amoeba website.

Free Improv that is actually Awesome

Improv Olympic (aka iO West because the International Olympic Committee threatened to sue) hosts an Improv Cage Match every Thursday night at 11pm, and it's free.

The team Freedom Snatch has won 27 weeks in a row. I was lucky enough to see them perform in February, and it was honestly one of the best improv shows I've ever seen. They are fast, witty, and ridiculously funny. I highly recommend them. This Thursday they are being challenged by Stolemite.

iO is at 6366 Hollywood Blvd, between Ivar and Cahuenga. Valet is $4 with validation, or you can find street parking on Vine or Sunset moderately easily.
